SAN DIEGO (March 5, 2009) – Murphy Development Company has completed construction of a 159,631- square-foot build-to-suit facility for Circle Foods, LLC, at 8411 Siempre Viva Road in Siempre Viva Business Park on Otay Mesa. Circle Foods will produce over 75 different fresh and frozen food products at the facility for customers at both the local and national level in the facility, which includes 132,369 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space and 27,262 square feet of office space. Once the facility is fully operational, Circle Foods expects to employ more than 300 at the site, making it one of the largest employers in Otay Mesa.
“This was an ambitious undertaking, completed within a very short window of time. The complexity and schedule of this project required an extraordinary level of cooperation from many stakeholders,” said Eric A. Brenk, general manager and COO of Circle Foods. “We are delighted with our new state-of-the-art facility and grateful to the entire team.”
The development team included Lusardi Construction Company, Gene Cipparone Architects and Wiseman + Rohy Structural Engineers. The project was financed by San Diego National Bank.
Since it is a food production facility, a number of structural and utility enhancements to the building design were required, including 8,000 amps of power and 32-foot minimum clear height. The state-of-the-art manufacturing improvements and equipment were designed to meet both FDA and USDA requirements.
San Diego City Council President Ben Hueso of District 8 praised Circle Food’s decision to move to the area. “Otay Mesa’s economy just got stronger with the addition of Circle Foods. I’m excited that they are creating hundreds of much-needed jobs in the area. I welcome Circle Foods and thank them for choosing Otay Mesa,” he said.
The Circle Foods building is the 14th facility built by Murphy Development at Siempre Viva Business Park, which will include 2.1 million square feet of corporate-quality industrial space upon completion. The final two buildings, totaling 200,000 square feet, will be completed in the future.
One of the most successful developments in San Diego County, Siempre Viva Business Park is home to a variety of high-profile Fortune 500 tenants, including General Dynamics NASSCO, UPS, Iron Mountain, Hitachi, Mattel, VF Corporation, Bose Corporation and Pioneer Speakers.
