SAN DIEGO (Oct. 20, 2004) – Mattel, Inc., a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of toys and family products, has signed a five-year lease for 24,752 square feet of warehouse/distribution and office space, as well as eight trailer parking spaces, in Otay Mesa’s Siempre Viva Business Park at 8851 Kerns St., San Diego 92154.
Mattel was represented in the transaction by Tom Cherry and Jeff Sharpe from the Los Angeles office of Cushman & Wakefield of California. The lessor, Murphy Development Company, was represented by Hack Adams, the firm’s director of marketing. Mattel leased a portion of the 115,290-square-foot Building 10 in the business park’s 590,000-square-foot Eastern Phase.
“Mattel’s real estate executives and the Cushman & Wakefield brokers are all highly skilled professionals who recognized the operational advantages that Building 10 offered,” said Adams. “It features an oversized all-concrete truck yard, 28-foot minimum clear height, wide column spacing and terrific ambient light. Of primary importance to Mattel was their ability to park trailers in the oversized concrete truck yard contiguous with their warehouse operation. It set the building apart from any other option on Otay Mesa.”
Murphy Development Company is the largest commercial real estate developer on Otay Mesa. The firm has completed in excess of 3.6 million square feet of space on Otay Mesa and has plans for an additional 2.5 million square feet. The Western Phase, which is currently under construction, will be the final phase at the 2.1 million-square-foot business park, which has been one of the most successful developments in San Diego County. Tenants include such prominent companies as Hitachi Transport, Iron Mountain, Air Tiger, UPS Supply Chain Solutions, Bose Corporation, Pioneer Speakers, Thompson Consumer Electronics and Reef.
Once the remaining Siempre Viva Business Park buildings are completed, Murphy Development will turn its attention to the 80-acre Brown Field Technology Park, which is master-planned for approximately 1 million square feet of corporate industrial and technology
