Michael Murphy was born in Chicago, Illinois and was raised in a small town in Wisconsin. He graduated from the University of Arizona and the Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management. After graduate school, Mr. Murphy joined General Motors Overseas Operations in New York, after which he was assigned to Europe where he resided for five years, with senior management responsibilities in Scotland, Eastern Europe, Greece and West Germany.

Mr. Murphy has served on the boards and executive committees of a number of not for profit San Diego institutions, including the Scripps Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Bishop’s School, and the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce.

With Mr. Murphy as it’s CEO, Murphy Development has entitled 430 acres of projects in the City of San Diego, one of California’s most challenging environmental municipalities. In order to secure the Brown Field Technology Park’s 3,200,000 square feet of entitled rights, Murphy Development needed to secure approvals from the City of San Diego, the Airport Land Use Commission, and the San Diego Regional Airport Authority. The firm is experienced in all aspects of obtaining and protecting entitlements.
